Optical Technician Level 1 – Polishing

We will teach conventional pitch and pad polishing techniques. Level 1 polishing technicians will learn proper cleaning and the handling techniques of optical components. We will teach basic optical testing and inspection methods to ensure quality specifications of components. We will teach you to provide accurate estimates on polishing times for components. You should be able to read and understand a variety of job-related instructions and documents. Candidates will need to perform basic math calculations and conversions. Must be detail-oriented, be able to work under time and production restrictions, communicate effectively, ensure consistency in work and perform repetitive tasks with consistency. We will teach candidates to visually determine and differentiate colors and evaluate optics for scratches, coating defects, marks, and other possible problems as they pertain to the polishing operation.

Skills / Attributes required: Will train. Basic math skills, ability to learn and retain information, follow verbal and written instructions. Good eye / hand coordination. Optical Technician Level 1 – Quality

Cleans, inspects, and ships optical substrates to Customers, Stock, QC, or Coating Kitting. Typical day to day operations include demonstrating best practice techniques for optical contacting, decontacting, deblocking, and cleaning of optics. Use computers to complete required daily departmental functions. Learn how to perform optical testing using a variety of metrology tools such as, interferometers, spectrophotometers, optical comparators, auto collimators, and other hand tools such as calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers etc. This position offers a career opportunity utilizing a wide variety of metrology techniques and optical materials.

Skills / Attributes required: Will train. Basic math skills, ability to learn and retain information, follow verbal and written instructions. Good eye / hand coordination. Eyesight must be sufficient quality to be able to identify small defects on glass and other optical materials. Ability to work in a team environment. Reliability, ability to focus and attention to detail are key elements for this position.
